Treasure Map What You Want in 2013

Oprah Winfrey popularized the concept of a “Treasure Map.”

She devoted an entire hour of The Oprah Winfrey Show to the topic several years ago and the concept of creating a visual board of what you want skyrocketed. Although treasure mapping was not a new concept at the time, the practice exploded. Hoards of women and men and children around the globe began to create a visual collage of their goals for the future.

The results reported were astounding. Wave after wave of “treasure mappers” began recording achievement success, all attributed to their design a visual reminder of  what they wanted to accomplish in their life. Creating a treasure map is a very simple but effective idea: It involves creating a physical representation or collage of what you want to achieve that acts as a constant visual reminder and representation of your goals. Seeing daily the treasure map that you created intensifies the effects of visualization, which seals your intentions on your subconscious mind to motivate and encourage you towards achieving those goals.

Visualizing Goals on Paper.

A treasure map collage is a powerful goal attainment technique.  The reason it can be effective is that you identify exactly what you want for your life.  Treasure mapping is a creative image that you put on paper that shows what you desire and intend to work towards for a span of time.  Barbara  Laport has been using and teaching the process of goal design on collage, or treasure mapping, for more than twenty years.  She says, in her book Goal Achievement through Treasure Mapping, that this is one way to link vision with reality.

Treasure mapping is an effective goal design process.  It involves creating a physical, visual representation of your goals. You get to create this collage, which may be a work of art or a crude form of motivation for achievement.  Some treasure mappers are design conscious and some aren’t. The main point is not to spend too much energy on “beauty.” Rather spend your creative juice on the “bounty” of what you intend to achieve.

Key Treasure Mapping Step:

First of all, begin creating your treasure map when you are ready. You can create a treasure map anytime. It does not have to be completed New Year’s Day, although many use that date as a marker for their annual treasure map ritual. It’s up to you.  Start designing your goal collage when you are ready to craft your creative visual of your financial, personal, professional or material goals. That is when you begin.

  • The most important first step in creating your treasure map is to clearly know what you want to achieve. Your goals must be clarified at the beginning of the process.   Goal setting is the first pivot step in the process.
  • Next, you can begin to visualize what you want to happen once you have achieved your goals.

It is really that simple – know the goal(s) you want to achieve and then visualize the outcome. Dig into the details by asking questions about each goal: What do I want? What will I get when I achieve my goal? How does getting what I want feel? How will I celebrate?  Who will I be when this goal is attained? Catherine Ponder says the visualization of what you want to achieve is critical; she adds “this is when you open your mind to receive.”

Open your mind to receive

Think grandly, don’t minimize or settle for less than the boundless expanse of your goal.  Then, creatively design your goals and what you clearly visualize on paper. Keep in mind here, as you begin to set-up your treasure map vision board, to have order.  Make your vision board treasure map a clear road  map to success, not a chaotic mess of confusion. Clear design and clear outcome visualization make a huge difference.

You may look for inspiration in magazines or other print or online images that support the goal you want to achieve. For instance, if you have a goal of a vacation to Costa Rica, find pictures of scenery in Costa Rica. Your pictures must clearly represent that specific goal and not some vague longing. Another example might be a career or professional goal, then you need find exact pictures and motivational words that relate to your goal. If you want money, create a financial goal picture that clearly specifies the amount of money you want. The purpose is to see yourself there, to definitely see yourself achieving exactly what you want.

A treasure map captures your goal in vivid picture form on paper.   What you create will become your creative visualization of achievement.

Finish your treasure map vision board.

This may seem trivial, but often many fail to complete assignments that move them closer to their goal and thereby sabotage their ultimate achievement.  Keep working, clarify each goal and then add visual effects that inspire and  motivate your achievement. You may also add milestone markers along the way, depending on how sophisticated you want to get.

Get it done, create your goal intention masterpiece. You are the Picasso of your goals. Keep in mind, too, that if you later find an image that better captures your goal, add it in or replace a weaker image. It is perfectly fine to refine your treasure map throughout the year.

Treasure Map placement

Place your treasure map vision board in a prominent place. It is your reminder of the goals you want to achieve. Some achievers place their vision board on the refrigerator, others tape their treasure map on the bathroom mirror or place it in front of a mirror. You may wish to put your treasure map on your bedroom door. You make the choice of where you want to hang or place your treasure map; just make sure you see it every day as a prominent reminder of your goals for 2013.

Happy Treasure Mapping – collage your dreams!

Fix Your Own Life

It does not matter the source to which we turn outside of ourselves to fix ourselves, it cannot be done. Only you can fix your own life. You may read tons of books, meditate, take the advice of others, or become a life-fix guru (and these things are often positive) it stills remains fact that you are the only one who can fix your life.

Iyanla Vanzant has a new television show on the OWN network, Oprah Winfrey’s production company, that’s titled “Iyanla, Fix My Life.” In credit to her, she knows she is only a conduit. Recently on the Tavis Smiley show, she offered this comment, “My vision is to elevate the consciousness of humanity one mind, one heart, one life, one spirit at a time.”

Iyanla is a source, that’s all. The fix of your life is still up to you. Eckhart Tolle, in his book A New Earth, also describes his written works as a source. In the opening of that book, Tolle writes “This book is about you.” Of course it is about you, for you alone can fix the interpretation thereof to meaning in your life.

Tolle is a source, that’s all. The whole premise of the book, Climb Every Obstacle: Eliminate Your Limits! is that you are the CEO of your life, only you. It does not matter what obstacle you encounter, you have the talent, source, wisdom to transform that, in truth, transient obstacle into an opportunity step to a stronger inner awareness.

What you read, inculcate or advocate is a source, that’s all. The awakening that all of humankind is called to internalize and advance is entirely up to you as an individual who forms a part of a collective consciousness of healthy healing.

“Nothing splendid has ever been achieved except by those who dared believe that something inside them was superior to circumstance.” ~Bruce Barton

You are superior to circumstance. You are superior to the ego in others and within yourself that tell you you are inferior. You are superior to temporal mistakes. You are superior to your past. You are superior period.

You are noble; ingest that truth for a while. Really feel your nobility-allow your inner nobility to transcend past labels. You are noble.

You are a perfect, superior being of nobility. It is your innate nobility and your superior nature that equip you to love yourself and others and consciously live in the pure freedom of acceptance in spite of perceived chaos. These two qualities-superior oneness and nobility- are the tools you already have inside that strengthen you to fix your own life.

Fix your own life; you can. Only you can.

Where is Your Chi (Energy)?

We have turned a new Gregorian calendar page and emptied out the old for the new destined promises of 2012. In order to allow whatever you desire that is promised for you, there has to be energy around it.  James Arthur Ray is famous for say, “Energy goes where attention flows.” Oprah Winfrey mimics the same principal with her words,”I know for sure that what we dwell on is who we become.”

Becoming in 2012 takes energy. Here are three ways to boost your energy(chi):

  • Put things in order. Complete or replace dangling needs. If you have not yet finished writing or have a project or issue left over, examine it and then finish or replace it. Don’t get frustrated that your expected time of completion has passed, instead really examine within yourself if this is viable for right now. Ask yourself is this my truest intention? Oftentimes leftover projects are the result of low energy for that particular thing instead of being a lack of time. Check your energy level around that specific need, project or issue, in harmonious intention, and either refresh your completion timeline or replace that one with something new that is “hot” with energy for you.
  • Defuzz your vision.  Often we know what we feel and want in our lives. The problem many times is that our feelings (energy) and wants are clouded over similar to a cataract eye.  Make your 2012 vision 20/20.  There are many ways for you to do this and let me suggest two energy chi  surge actions that when paired together touch a circuit for completion and realization that equals success. ONE-write your goals down. Make it real by using a pen a paper to describe in exact detail what gives you energy.  TWO – create a vision board that is a pictorial representation of where you will direct your energy this year.

My 2012 vision board

Look at my personal vision board for 2012. It is clear how I will direct my energy (chi) this year.  This is what I want in 2012: a caring, giving, prosperous spirit; a loving helpmate; travel to Italy or other countries represented by the flags; to complete the Peachtree Road Race in 2012; to sell 800 copies of my book Climb Every Obstacle: Eliminate Your Limits! (afterwhich it goes out of print); to be active in Toastmasters; to practice A+ excellence in all things knowing that I can do it.

My vision board was constructed and laid out according to the Chinese theory of Feng Shui and the Bagua map.  My reference is written with clear instructions and simple diagrams which really aided my completion.  You will find the Bagua map and Feng Shui at http://pmfs.wordpress.com/2008/01/16/the-bagua/.    The main point here is to couple your clearly written and visual goals together to create the energy and action to make everything you desire in 2012 to happen.

  • Set up marker stations.  Pay attention to your intentions and your energy (chi) every day.  As you go throughout the year pause at marker points to celebrate.  For me, a marker point would be after I have run 3 miles seven days in a row-I need to celebrate because this is a halfway point in the Peachtree Road Race for example.  You set your own marker stations and add more energy fuel for completion by celebrating.   Notice that I am very clear and specific about what my marker station is for that specific goal.  Do the same for each of your goals with a sensible frequency for celebration that energizes you and reminds you that you have matched a goal marker in your life.  Then, move your marker station for that goal to stretch beyond where you are at that moment (include this as a part of your energy celebration) so that you advance forward to  successfully completing that goal.

Some of your goals can be completed short-term and others may take more time, but knowing in written and visual form that your goals are attainable as long as your energy attention flows, will renew your completion strength day by day and from marker to marker.

Here’s to your Chi in 2012.

Facing Forward to the Future

Okay, 2012 calendar year is three days away.  The best, most definite thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time.  You know that, but do you know the best way to face forward for 2012?

Let me give you three proven best tips for facing forward to the future: anytime!

  • Know your power to create exactly or more than what you presently have.  Samuel Johnson says, “The future is purchased at the price of vision in the present.”  Embrace your present and inculcate the life staff of gratitude and you harness the power to create a new future facing forward.  A subset of this power pivot is to have a clear understanding of what you must do, create concrete plans of how you can achieve that, and actually doing what you purposed in a defined time period. In other words: SEE, KNOW, DO by a certain time.

Here is one creative way to SEE your power-design a dream board full of color and pictures of what you know you want to achieve. Oprah Winfrey advocates this, along with writing a journal, and a fast track to manifesting what you want.

A  suggestion to KNOW your power to create your future is to write a goal list full of incremental, definite steps that move you forward toward the new direction of goal. You may need weekly goal prompts in the beginning and if so start your goal list of weekly tasks that you must accomplish. Others may only need monthly prompts. Whatever scale you need, break down the year 2012 into those segments and commit to review each week or month your goal list of defined steps.

Last, seeing and writing mean little with DOING.

  • Pace expectancy.  “Live deep instead of fast” are the words of Henry Seidel Canby which should be etched in stone. I watched the biography of Harlem Globetrotter Medowlark Lemon on the Biography channel last night. One thing he said stuck with me, which paraphrased, is that he  knew deep within that he would play basketball at a very young age and practiced for about twelve years toward that goal. He actually never stopped practicing, according to his roommate, even after becoming the “showman” for the Globetrotters. Mr. Lemon paced his expectancy and powered the attainments in his future.
  •  Trust Tranquility.  Trust in the restful tranquility of your being and ability to fulfill the goals of your future. This means that you own the power to know that what you will will be done. No force, no selfishness, no cheating, no competition, no fear, no backward recidivist glances.  Then you can get about the business of active service assured in your belief that your future is achievable and forward facing.

Face Forward Future!

Miracle Monday: Encouragement

We all need a pat on the back sometimes.  Let me enthusiastically send each of you a virtual “pat” of love.

I have been hearing from many that these past few months have been trying emotionally. “It seems as if I do nothings right,” or “Why is my life not working right now?” or “What can I do to solve my money issues?” The answer is the same, stay encouraged and full of faith. In every obstacle there is a challenge, but these is also, more importantly, an inner lesson to learn. These teachable moments come at the right time to educate you…they are not for anyone else but you.

You can pass the test, stay encouraged. My “daughter” Jenna attended  the O YOU event, put on by Oprah Winfrey in Atlanta Saturday and they said the same thing I am saying to you. Stay encouraged – keep a joyful attitude.  Be still, find your inner and outer sources of strength.  One compelling way to give yourself a pat on the back is to pause and meditate on one or two things that are good in your life right now.

Why don’t you do that with me, or whenever you can today. Stop everything for five minutes, pause and stop. Next, sit in a relaxing pose and close your eyes. Some have soft music playing at this time or others have nature sounds in the background or you may have a favorite CD of mantras to use that augments your meditation/pat on the back time. I can do this with or without either, depending on my need or the situation at the time.  Just sit and relax and clear your mind.

The twist today is that I want you to think of one or two things that are good in your life right now…feel the feelings – think on only the good in your life TODAY. Feel deeply and with appreciation the good…yes, the good. Then, open your eyes and carry the feelings with you throughout the day.

Tell me how you feel after this meditation of encouragement. Let me hear back from you please.

Be encouraged, you are good and your life is good.

Jaycee and Bree are on my Vision Board

The picture of mother/survivor Jaycee Dugard is on my Oprah Vision Board. Why? She has the answer to happiness, she climbed mountainous obstacles. She said to Diana Sawyer in her recent ABC news interview that she nor her mother never gave up hope that they would see each other again.  Dugard was kidnapped in 1991 by Phillip and Nancy Garrido when she was 11 years old and held bound in the backyard of her captors.  She was raped, isolated in solitary confinement until after her second daughter was born, and victimized with verbal abuse for 18 years.

In spite of the abuse, imposed captivity, and rapes Jaycee said to Diane Sawyer that she had to write her new book, A Stolen Life.  “Why not look at it? You know, stare it down until it can’t scare you anymore,” she told Sawyer. “I didn’t want there to be any more secrets…I hadn’t done anything wrong. It wasn’t something I did that caused this to happen. And I feel that by putting it all out there, it’s very freeing,”

“I am happy,” says Dugard…I am happy-these are the words that placed her picture in the center of 2011 Oprah Winfrey Vision Board.

Bree Boyce’s picture was added to my vision board too because of her inspiring “never give up” seek your goal story.  This 22 year old winner of the 2011 South Carolina beauty pageant once weighed 230 pounds, only two years ago. Now she is headed to Vegas! Before Bree heads to Las Vegas in January to compete for the Miss America title, she will travel the country speaking about her weight transformation – as well, of course, as working on the various charitable campaigns for children’s hospitals.

My identification with her for my inspiration came when she told TODAY show host Ann Curry Tuesday, “I just thought to myself, ‘I did it. I did it all on my own.’ Stick out your chest Bree, you deserve every second of praise.

Just like Jaycee or Bree, we can do anything! Whatever it is, you aspire to do – do it!

  • Make up your mind what you want to accomplish
  • Have irrefutable resolve
  • Create a vision board
  • Get busy-put into action you are charged to do
  • Build in rewards at critical intermittent points
  • Celebrate the end! You did it!

Yes you can!

Never, ever give up!
